Monterey Bay Economic Partnership (MBEP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, member-supported organization serving Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito Counties. As a regional convener MBEP brings together public, private, and civic partners to strengthen economic vitality and improve quality of life across the Monterey Bay region. MBEP is a recognized leader in broadband access, digital inclusion, and regional collaboration, supporting projects that expand digital literacy, broadband adoption, and equitable access to technology for all residents. MBEP recognizes that technology is a primary engine for long-term economic growth primarily for increasing productivity, and through several interconnected channels including broadband, automation, e-commerce, etc.
Position Summary
MBEP seeks Digital Literacy Instructors to deliver in-person digital literacy training for adult learners as part of a grant-funded digital inclusion initiative. Instructors will facilitate beginner to intermediate digital skills classes using a provided curriculum and teaching materials. This role focuses on instruction and learner support – no curriculum development is required.
Digital Literacy Instructors will participate in one required in-person training, and upon completion, will be eligible to teach a range of digital literacy courses aligned with community needs.
This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy teaching, supporting adult learners, and helping community members build confidence using technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate in-person digital literacy classes for adult learners, covering basic to intermediate digital skills.
- Deliver instruction using MBEP-provided curriculum, lesson plans, and teaching materials.
- Create a welcoming, supportive learning environment for participants with varying levels of digital experience.
- Adapt teaching style to meet the needs of diverse learners, including seniors and English-learners.
- Prepare for classes by reviewing curriculum materials and coordinating with MBEP staff regarding schedules and locations.
- Track attendance and complete required sign-in sheets.
- Coordinate with MBEP staff to support participant referrals and wrap-around services when appropriate.
Desired Qualifications & Experience
- Experience teaching, tutoring, training, or facilitating workshops for adults or community members.
- Comfortable using computers, mobile devices, and common digital tools (email, internet browsing, basic applications).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, supportive, and culturally responsive teaching approach.
- Ability to follow a structured curriculum and lesson plan.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred.
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel to in-person training locations.
Formal teaching credentials are not required.
Location: Candidate must be located in Santa Cruz, Monterey, or San Benito County; Hybrid, (In-person instruction at community-based locations; some travel required)
Compensation: $30/hour (Hours scheduled based on class offerings and community needs)
Classification: Part-time, Exempt (Hours scheduled based on class offerings)
