HOUSING ADVOCACY
Housing Advocacy in the Monterey Bay Region
California continues to face a severe housing crisis that touches every corner of our communities—from low-income families, seniors, and students struggling with housing costs to businesses striving to recruit and retain a stable workforce.
While there is no single cause for our region’s lack of affordable housing, there are multiple pathways to solutions. In partnership with Envision Housing, MBEP published a Housing Policy White Paper in 2018 that identified the key drivers of the crisis and outlined nine practical policy changes to improve affordability in the Monterey Bay region. We also developed a “Housing Scorecard” tool to help local governments track their progress on these measures.
MBEP’s Housing Team continues to build, educate, and empower a broad coalition of community members, employers, and organizations who champion housing of all types and income levels. Addressing the housing crisis requires collective action, and together we can help ensure that our region remains vibrant, equitable, and economically resilient.
