Pilot Program Trains Veterans for Facilities Management Careers
One of the newest apprenticeship programs in the region is the Facilities Management Veterans Apprenticeship Program at the Veterans Transition Center of Monterey County, a pilot program recently launched at the Veterans Transition Center in conjunction with industry partners and the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office, Workforce Development Division. The 24-week program includes in-class and paid on-the-job training in a field with a median annual salary of $105,420, with a range typically between $60,460 and $169,930.
Demand for qualified professionals in the industry is huge: In the past 12 months, there were over 6,500 facility manager job openings in California and less than 250 individuals who have completed formal training for these positions. More than half of today’s facility management practitioners are expected to retire in the next five to 15 years, according to the International Facility Management Association.
