2021 California Economic Summit

Coming to Monterey on Nov. 9-10

“10 Years Together,” the theme for this year’s upcoming hybrid California Economic Summit, celebrates the progress that’s been made over the past decade through a collaborative, inclusive, regional approach to the state’s most pressing challenges. That same theme also speaks to the commitment, now more than ever, to build regions and communities that work for everyone.

The California Economic Summit, produced by California Forward (CA FWD) in partnership with members of its California Stewardship Network, comes to Monterey in person on Nov. 9-10, or virtually on Nov. 10, with a clear goal in mind: to develop triple-bottom-line policy recommendations that balance racial and geographic equity, environmental sustainability and economic growth. The Summit has emerged as California’s only statewide venue for capturing the best ideas from every region and building a comprehensive plan to better align state and local government, urban and inland economies, and resources from the public and private sectors.

This year, the Monterey Bay Economic Partnership (MBEP) will serve as regional host. The Summit will take place at the Monterey Conference Center and brings together business, government, regions, communities, young leaders and many more Californians to develop a shared economic agenda, known as the Roadmap to Shared Prosperity, for the coming year.

From engaging plenaries and keynotes to cross-sector and statewide networking, the California Economic Summit is where participants will build policy recommendations that will guide collective action in 2022 on these critical issues:

  • Increasing Community Investment
  • Expanding Home Ownership
  • Ensuring Broadband for All
  • Providing Meaningful Career Pathways
  • Empowering Resilient and Productive Landscapes
  • Investing in Small Businesses Owned by People of Color
  • Building a Sustainable Energy Future

“That’s the power of the Summit: bringing together diverse, cross-sector, cross-region, multi-partisan organizations to develop policy solutions,” says California Forward CEO Micah Weinberg. “This is an action-oriented, roll-up-your-sleeves-and-let’s-get-to-work event.”

In addition to work group sessions to advance Summit goals and interactive plenary sessions featuring keynote speakers, state policy leaders, regional business and civic leaders on critical issues facing California, this year’s California Economic Summit will feature regional activities, tours, and a 10th-anniversary celebration reception.

“I’m thrilled that MBEP has been chosen to host the 2021 California Economic Summit, and, for the first time, the state is coming to our region for this event,” says MBEP President and CEO Kate Roberts. “As co-chair of the California Stewardship Network and of the Summit Steering Committee, it’s exciting that the momentous 10-year anniversary of this event will be held in Monterey with the opportunity to showcase the good work being done throughout the region. We have assembled a broad spectrum of community leaders to represent the diversity of our region’s industries and geography.”

“Marking ’10 Years Together,’ we’re celebrating 10 years of progress and it’s a time to reflect on that, but we’re also looking forward, to how we can create a future that will work for everybody, and not leave anybody behind,” says Weinberg.
