The Monterey Bay Region boasts some of the finest medical facilities in the world, including the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula, Dignity Health/Dominican Hospital, Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital and Natividad Medical Center. There are numerous low cost medical clinics serving the community as well. Central Coast Health Connect provides patients and physicians a platform to safely, instantly access medical records and information.
An increased interest in the Health and Wellness industry cannot be ignored. The public has been looking for ways to feel better, become rejuvenated, and stay healthy and fit. The Monterey Bay Region has already been part of that movement for years. Centers for physical and mental well-being, like Esalen institute in Big Sur, Five Branches Institute in Santa Cruz, 1440 Multiversity in Scotts Valley, San Benito Health Foundation and others, all cater to the needs of those searching for a more natural answer to health.
The Monterey Bay Region is also home to the organic food industry, having the oldest organic agriculture program in the country at UC Santa Cruz’s Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems, and large organic food companies like Earthbound Farms, Swanton Berry Farms, and vibrant farmers’ markets in every city. From this ethos, many vitamin and supplemental food products companies have taken root, including Awesome Organics, Nordic Naturals, Rainbow Light, Santa Cruz Nutritionals, and SunOpta Threshold Enterprises.
The Monterey Bay region has always been a hotbed of creative recreation and sports companies, having defined surfing, mountain biking, skate boarding, kite boarding, and being the home to some of the most impressive golf courses in the world. Companies like O’Neill, Santa Cruz Bikes, FOX Shocks and West Marine have defined their categories and delivered groundbreaking products. And Pebble Beach, Spyglass, Cypress Point, and Pasatiempo are on every golfer’s bucket list for courses to play in one’s lifetime.
Sports and recreation companies are created in the Monterey Bay Region because we drive innovation around each activity: creating surfing and then surf boards, riding bikes in the nearby mountains and then perfecting the mountain bike, being active marine boaters and fishermen and understanding what products work best in a tough marine environment. If you have a passion in sport or recreation, you can create it here!
