WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE: OVERVIEW

A strong workforce is a vital part of having a sustainable and prosperous economy.  High unemployment levels, a lack of trained, ready to work population, and a growing skills gap are just a few of the challenges that hinder economic development throughout the Monterey Bay Region. MBEP’s Workforce Development Initiative seeks to create positive change through collaborative approaches that bring new resources to the region, amplify the impact of best practices, assist with startups and expanding companies, and help better align education with job sectors.

As part of the MBEP's Workforce Development initiative, we have three projects:

Monterey Bay Internships (MBI). MBI is a new resource that consolidates internship opportunities from multiple resources to serve students and employers throughout the Monterey Bay region, irrespective of location, educational institution or discipline.

Monterey Bay Career Coach. The Monterey Bay Economic Partnership (MBEP) and Bright Futures Education Partnership (Bright Futures) are sponsoring a new resource for the tri-county region called Monterey Bay Career Coach. This initiative is bringing “Local answers for local students”. Monterey Bay Career Coach is a powerful online tool designed to help guide local students enter into promising careers here in the Monterey Bay region. Please visit mbcareerconnect.org to find out more.

Career Pathway Design. MBEP has partnered with the Bright Futures Education Partnership to support existing career pathways and to foster tri-county strategic advancement of future career pathway design. With support from the Lumina Foundation, we are developing a regional career pathway master plan which is enabling shared strategies to further expand pathways, enhance future regional grant opportunities and offer more robust options for career seekers.
